Meet the Books
Wash Day: A Care and Style Guide for Little Curls (Re-release, July 2025)
The first book in the series, with expanded content and a new cover design. It offers an engaging, step-by-step guide to help children of all backgrounds understand how to care for their curly hair — from washing to detangling to choosing a style. The book empowers young readers to take charge of their hair care routine.
Braid Day: More Styles for Little Curls (August 2025)
The second book in the series, inviting children to explore a variety of fun and creative braided styles, from cornrows to bubble braids. With over 30 hairstyles, it highlights the diversity of curly hair and what is possible with braids.
My Day: A Story About Speaking Up (September 2025)
The final book in the series. When others make unkind comments about their curly hair, My Day teaches kids how to find their brave voice and respond with self-assurance. This important resource promotes kindness, self-respect, and the importance of standing up for yourself and others.
Why Curls, Confidence & Courage Matters
Curls, Confidence & Courage was born out of a deep desire to center and celebrate the everyday experiences of kids with curly hair. This series addresses the underrepresentation of Black hair stories in children's literature while championing identity, resilience, and joy. At its heart, the series is about celebrating who we are and building confidence from the inside out.
"Hair is an expression of who we are. With this series, I want to create safe, affirming spaces where children feel seen, celebrated, and empowered — every step of the way."
— Monique Mayers, Author
